Where Have You Been, 89 min.

Where Have You Been (2024), directed by Mirko Pincelli and produced by Pinch Media Film and ŠTO TE NEMA, Inc., tells the story of the nomadic monument through the voices of those who built it. It is a story about empathy, solidarity, and how we face collective trauma, but also about a community's power to turn pain into connection that resists apathy. Moving between past and present, the film explores what it means to build a space for shared memory, and how art can become a bridge between sorrow and hope, responsibility and healing. Alongside this, it captures the journey of artist Aida Šehović's living monument of the same name, from its nomadic beginnings in the diaspora to its final return home.

The film premiered at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival in 2024 and was later featured at IDFA Docs for Sale and included in the FIPADOC 2025 Film Festival in Biarritz, France and the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival in The Hague, Netherlands, among others. In April 2026, the film had its North American premiere at the 22nd Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival in New York, where it received the Audience Award for Best Film.

Host a screening

Where Have You Been is available for screenings at universities, festivals, museums, and community organizations worldwide, as a public event or for educational use.

It's a teaching film for courses in genocide and transitional justice, memory studies, human rights, art, peace and conflict, and Balkan studies, opening conversations on remembrance, accountability, and the role of art in collective mourning and healing.

FILM SYNOPSIS

30 years after the genocide, the first in Europe since World War II, survivors in Bosnia and Herzegovina persist in their quest to find their missing loved ones. “Where Have You Been” traces the homecoming of Bosnian-American artist Aida Šehović and her participatory, nomadic monument to the Srebrenica Genocide.

With the monument coming to its final resting place after traveling the world for 15 years, those who remain gather at the site of the atrocities to fill thousands of fildžani (small porcelain coffee cups) in memory of the victims. As they collectively mourn, painful questions endure: What does “never again” mean in a world where perpetrators live with impunity? How do art and empathy help fill the void left by immeasurable loss and trauma?
